RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
People are
formed in faith through many channels. Participation in the
community's Sunday liturgy (Mass) is essential for the
development of Catholic faith. Parish religious education is
supportive of full and active participation in the liturgy, but
never takes priority over the liturgy. The incorporation of
prayer and sacred scripture in the religion curriculum links
active involvement in faith activities with the process of
learning about our faith.
The parish
offers the following religious education programs to strengthen,
deepen, and support God's gift of faith. These programs are
entirely dependent on volunteer ministers who serve as teachers,
aides, administrative assistants, substitute teachers, or in
other supportive roles. To volunteer, register or get more
information on these programs, call Jeanne Nicolucci, Director
of Religious Education, 783-4554, ext. 109.
“Gospel
for Little Ones”
On Religious Education Sundays during the
10:15 Mass children who have not received their First
Communion are invited to follow leaders to the Spellman Room
where they have the Sunday readings from the Children’s
Lectionary. On the Second
Sunday of the Month, which is Liturgy with Children Sunday,
the children remain in the church for the Children's Gospel.
There is no registration for “Gospel for Little Ones”.
Contact Jeanine Henry for more information.
Pre-K 3 and 4 Class
Children who are at least 3 years old by August 30
can register for this program. This class is part of the Religious
Education curriculum and follows Sadlier’s
“Discovering God” series. The children receive
take-home papers and a snack.
Elementary
Religious Education Classes
Children in
Grades Pre-K-6 meet on Sunday mornings in the school from 9:00
a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Through this program, the children hear God's
Word in sacred scripture, share prayer and devotions,
participate in service and outreach and learn to connect the
teachings of their Catholic faith with their lives. They also
celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation a few times each year.
71h and
81h Grade Religious Education Classes
The 7t"
and 8t" Grades meet on Sunday mornings from 9:00 to
10:00 a.m. The curriculum has been developed especially for use
with middle school students. On alternative years, the students
study the New Testament, An Introduction and Morality,
A Course on Catholic Living. Just as with the elementary
grades, these students are empowered to ground their daily lives
on the foundation of their Catholic faith.
